Fatoumata Sillah, the public relations officer of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), has said that the long-awaited rehabilitation of the Bakoteh dumpsite will commence anytime from now.
In July last year, the KMC officially entered into a contract agreement with a company called JMP Company Limited based in Italy to rehabilitate the long-standing environmental concerns of the Bakoteh dumpsite which has made life unbearable for residents in the area.
But up until now the DM97.2M contract is yet to take –off.
However speaking to The Standard yesterday, Ms Sillah said the KMC is very optimistic that work will kick off at the dumpsite as soon as possible.
She added: “I want to make it very clear that the reason that the reason for the delay is not directly connected to government neither was it connected to the Council. It has much to do with the contractors because the contract was officially handed over to the contractors,”she said.
The PRO said she the KMC understands the plight of the people in the area and they are equally concern about current difficult situation of the dumpsite.
