SPORTS MINISTER CALLS FOR TRUCE

After weeks of rancor among the sports fraternity Sports Minister Henry Gomez has weighed into the matter this time holding the olive branch. He told West Coast Radio that Gambians should put sentiments aside and come together for the progress and development of football and sports in the country.

“Let us stop saying this is my friend, relative or is my party militant and see Gambia first if we want result and progress, he said. Gomez added that The Gambia is bigger than anyone and everyone must now bury the hatchet and move forward. The minister’s comments effectively quenched a bitter exchange of words between the Gambia Football Federation FF and the National Sports Council NSC.

It also followed the reported involvement of the Office of the President who called on both sides to come to negotiations to iron out whatever grievances anyside may have.
“I think this the best way out. We must not go back to the Jammeh era when whoever gets close to the corridors of power get rid off his perceived opponents,” one commentator said.
