Gambia’s Afromanding singer and instrumentalist Jali Madi has cancelled his European tour “due to circumstances beyond his team’s control”. Jali Madi was billed to perform in Belgium at the Sfinks Mixed Festival yesterday.
He was to share stage with compatriot Sona Jobarteh, Malian singer Oumou Sangaré, and Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer, selector and singjay Charly Black and other acts. From there, he planned to go on a tour of European cities.

In a media release on his Facebook page, Team Jali Madi stated; “Sanga Ranga Records wishes to inform all fans and followers of Jali Madi that his long awaited tour of Europe 2018 has been cancelled due to circumstances that are beyond their control.”

“We are deeply saddened by this incident and we apologise to all our fans especially those that are residing in the countries the star is scheduled to play. Man proposes and God decides. Meanwhile, watch out for our future projects that include major performances in the coming months and an international album launch in February 2019 with big surprises international acts to be featured on. We thank all you all for your wishes and continued support throughout”.

Standard Lite has been informed that one of the hurdles that led to the cancellation of the planned tour was the inability by some members of the band to secure Schengen travel visas.
Jali Madi is one of the most sought-after Gambian performers. The scion of a notable jali family, he plays the kora and the guitar and sings. When he broke unto the scene many believe he was the natural successor to Jaliba Kuyateh but his choice of the Malian Mandinka broque was believed to have limited his popular appeal.
