Crab Island vocational training centre receives furniture

Global Orphan Empowerment Academy( GOEA), on international humanitarian programme handed over school furniture and materials to Crab Island Technical and Vocanational Educational Training( TVET) Center on Friday 21st January, 2022.

The presentation of twenty-five chairs, twenty five tables, twenty -five short drobe; five executive chairs and one whiteboard was held at TVET school.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony Mrs. Maria Gillen, executive director of GOEA said it is the mandate of the organization to support students in their learning process.

She stated that the furniture and materials are all geared towards assisting the youth and as a motivating factor in building the Gambia we want.

She said it is important to venture in such a gesture that helps youth and urged on the students to make best use of the time and never let anything discourage what they are doing.

Madam Gillen noted that they will continue to support youth of the country and schools as well.

National Assembly Member for Banjul North Honorable Ousman Sillah who also doubles as chairperson of TVET, expressed gratitude for the gesture rendered by Global Ophan Empowerment Academy.

He  further described the move as timely, adding that skills training is very fundamental in the development and advancement of every nation. “We need skills to build what we want for the country and the country is in need of vocational trainees to fill the gap that has be existing for a long time”.

However, Hon Sillah said the school demonstrated concern regarding the situation of young people in the country, who he said are being rended unproductive due to lack of education, skill and unemployment.

He said with the support of the government and other partners they were able to create technical and vocational training school, which enrolled 175 trainees on skills.

Mrs Mutarr John, Director of TVET lauded the gesture adding that the vocational school is young and needed support like this to help build the strengths of students and to motivate others to venture into vocational training.

He emphasized that, the materials will be used for the best purpose and student will make good use of them.

On behalf of the students, Sulayman Jallow said the materials will be put into good use and conveyed appreciation to donors for such an initiative.
