Star GSM Helping Hands donate to Tanka Tanka, decorates institutions

The Star GSM Company which specialises in the sale of mobile phones and other accessories has established a philanthropic unit called Star GSM Helping Hands Group.

Over the years, the group under the guidance of the Star GSM CEO Lamin Kaba extended help to various categories of people, institutions, and communities particularly the health sector.

On Saturday, the Group organised a grand presentation at the West Field Monument to make a huge presentation to the Tanka Tanka Mental Care home.

The presentation was in response to a request made by the Help the Mentality Disable Association (HEMDA) an advocacy group that seeks help and attention to the country’s mentally challenged persons.

The items donated include five bags of rice, a pallet of secondhand clothing and 75 bulbs.

Handing over the items, Star GSM CEO Lamin Kaba said the initiative conforms with his company’s corporate responsibility, which is to give back to the community.  He said the gesture is also in recognition of the hard work   of the staff at Tanka Tanka who take great risks in caring for the mentally challanged.

In the same vein, Mr Kaba took the opportunity to presents certificates of appreciation to media houses, artists and among others for their roles in promoting peace, development, and progress of The Gambia.

Those decorated include The Standard newspaper, King Radio, Jali Musa Jobarteh and Mama Africa Band while Badibunka spiced up the occasion with some music.

The occasion was also attended by women Kafos who are supported by the Group through its partnership with Supersonics Finance under which the Kafos can access loans to start up or expand their businesses.

Officials of the Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital home led by Dr Omar Bojang and comprising Dr Lamin Barrow both thanked Star GSM for the gesture and called on society  not to turn their back to the mentally challenged people in the society.
