Heavy rains and windstorms recently destroyed 17 houses, some of them completely in Jasobo Village, Kiang East.
According to reports from the area, the disaster also left many families without food after washing away livelihoods.

In the aftermath of the disaster, the United Kiang East Association, a group of people with origins from the district, came to the aid of the village by providing 25 bags of rice, cooking oil among other relief materials.
”The situation is dire and worrying and we felt that we needed to do something from our level,” said Baboucar Manka, the president of the association who accompanied his officials to the village.

They were received by Alkalo Sutay Sanneh, who thanked the association for initiating a very good model association, which provides help and assistance from within the people themselves. ”You have demonstrated that you care for your own people and will not wait until help arrives but rather take action yourself,” the Alkalo told the visitors.
