At least three suspects have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Musa Colley, a 20-year-old resident of Brikama.

Speaking to journalists at the Brikama police, the deceased’s uncle Lamin Colley said the family got the information on Saturday morning that Musa was found dead on the highway.

“We all went to confirm when we found the young boy lying on the ground with his forehead seriously wounded and his face covered with blood. This is bad news to the family and we are waiting for the police to conduct investigation and bring those responsible to justice,” he narrated with tears.

The police deputy PRO Foday Conta said investigations so far indicated that the victim was coming with his girlfriend and as they reached around Jah Oil Petrol station, he hit one of the parked trucks leading to a confrontation with three men sleeping in it.

Mr. Conta added that Musa’s girlfriend calmed the situation initially, but he reportedly returned to confront the three men believed to be apprentices and it is suspected that a fight ensued during which Musa was hit with an object on the head.

Conta said it is believed that the victim struggled to reach his house but collapsed at some point on the highway apparently bled to death.

He said the police invited Musa’s girlfriend before an investigation panel while the three suspects namely Alasana Bah 36, Abdoulie Jallow 18 and Edrissa Jallow, are currently detained at Brikama Police Station.
Conta also confirmed that a crowd of angry youths came to the police demanding to get access to the suspects to avenge the death of Musa but they were restrained even though they stoned the station in protest.

The deputy PRO said the Inspector General of Police and deputy CDS Yankuba Drammeh went to the station and had a meeting with the angry residents to calm them down, helped by the ECOMIG who went to protect the police station.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed the discovery of a dead body at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday. The young man was identified as Pa Modou Senghore alias Area.

His decomposed body was found inside the stadium’s electricity building near the score board. The cause of his death has not been immediately established but Foday Conta of the Gambia police public relations department said it is believed that the boy was electrocuted. Our investigations showed that the young people often visited the power house to steal electric cables and it is feared he could have been electrocuted during that act, Conat said.

A curious crowd gathered at the stadium upon hearing the news late Saturday night, before the highly decomposed and foul smelling body was removed by the fire and rescue service men.
