Yaya Tamba, the leader of the rival APRC faction known as ‘No to Alliance Movement’, has told The Standard that his group is on the final stages of selecting candidates for the April National Assembly elections.

Speaking from the provinces where he is supervising the selection process, Tamba whose faction is supported by former president Yahya Jammeh, said: “We have received request for sponsorship from aspirants all over the country and from Sunday we will have an idea as to which constituencies we will contest. All candidates under our ticket shall be nominated as independent candidates but people are free to call them APRC Independents.” However, Mr Tamba said he cannot say how many candidates they will put up at the end of the process.

On what happened to the alliance with the GDC that gave the purple party more than 100,000 votes in the presidential election, Tamba said the relations are good though the agreement only covered collaboration in the Presidential election.

Meanwhile, posters of many prospective candidates of the group have surfaced on social media and from different constituencies, mainly in the West Coast Region.
