The Women’s Bureau over the weekend ended a two-day training of at least 60 female councillors on leadership skills.
It was staged to acquaint them on the roles and functions of their mandate as councillors.
It took place at the Nana conference hall, and targeted more than 60 female councillors from all regions.
The Chairperson of the National Women’s Council, Ms Amie Fabureh, said since councillors are educated and others are not, it was important to build their capacity to achieve objectives of the council.
The Deputy Director of the Women’s Bureau, Mr Kajali Sonko, said the women’s council was established by an Act of parliament in 1980, amended in 1988 and repealed by the Women’s Act of 2010.
According to him, the role of the council is to advise government on all matters relating to health and well-being of women and girls. He said the Bureau serves as the secretariat to the National Women’s Council.
