Bwiam General Hospital recently received voluntary gifts of medical equipment.
Resuscitation materials, surgical items, BP machines, dressing materials, laboratory materials, diabetes needles, and oxygen cylinders were some of the items donated to improve better healthcare delivery.

The University of Edinburgh Medical School students’ association in UK donated the items to Foni Agency for Rural Development (Fard), through the Gambia Volunteers Trust.
Momodou Lamin Jatta, the deputy chief executive officer of The Gambia Volunteers Trust, said, the Trust is “aware of the plight of the people of Foni,” particularly with regards to access to health facilities and proper medication.

“As a voluntary organisation, the Gambia Volunteers Trust chooses to partner with Fard to ensure the people of Foni live better lives with regard to health, because a healthy community is a productive community,” said Jatta.
General Lang Tombong Tamba, chairperson of Fard, explained that the organisation is a non-political entity created to improve lives and livelihoods of the people of Foni.
“We have plans to extend our support to other parts of the country,” the ex-army General said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the chief executive officer of the hospital, Kaddy Jammeh, deputy CEO, told the donors that supporting the hospital means supporting the “entire length and breadth of Foni”.
She cited some of the challenges facing the hospital, and said if they have all the support required, “there will be no single referral [of the sick] to [EFSTH in] Banjul”.
She applauded the donors for the gesture and promised that the donated materials will be put into good use.
Omar Jammeh, the brain behind the donation, also spoke at the event.
