A local magistrate court in Mansakonko yesterday acquitted and discharged one Kassim Fadera, a resident of Soma who was on trial for words he allegedly uttered on WhatsApp.
The presiding Magistrate ruled that Fadera has no case to answer because the prosecutors did not provide enough evidence to prove their case beyond any reasonable doubt.
He was charged with sedition and prohibition of conduct conducive to the breach of the peace, which relates to a statement he uttered and posted on WhatsApp. The complainants, the six chiefs of Lower River Region, alleged that he has insulted them in the statement.

Fadera, who was represented by lawyers Borry Touray and Abdoulie Fatty made his first appearance in court on 12 November, 2018. He was remanded at Mansakonko Police Station and later taken to Janjanbureh and later granted bail.
Contacted shortly after the judgment was delivered, Mr Fadera told The Standard that he is glad that the court has freed him. “This has clearly demonstrated that the dark days of this country are behind us,” he asserted.
