Deputy Ambassador in Russia, Kebba Singhateh dies

Kebba Singhateh a prominent Baddibu politician serving as The Gambia’s deputy ambassador to the Russian Federation has died.

According to reliable sources, Singhateh was travelling to Banjul when he reportedly died on a flight on Friday.

Born in Saba, Singhateh was 67. His political career spanned decades starting from the First Republic. He contested against Majanko Samusa of the NCP in the Lower Baddibu Constituency losing narrowly in the 1992 general elections. He was a prominent figure in the process that led to the formation of Coalition 2016. With the coming of the new regime, he first served as first secretary at The Gambian mission in Moscow but was earlier this year promoted to the position of deputy head of mission.

Mr Singhateh trained as a nurse and studied Russian language at the First Leningrad Medical Institute in the Soviet Union in 1977.

He held a masters degree in political science from the State University of Leningrad.
