Thomas Cook Northern Europe (TCNE) has donated hospital materials “worth over a million dalasi” to the country’s major referral hospital in Banjul.
The donation, facilitated by TCNE Gambia coordinator, included operational beds, uniforms for nurses and doctors, chairs, towels, gloves among others.
Coordinator Modou Jobe said TCNE has been helping Gambian hospitals, schools, day-care centres for children with disabilities and other local communities for more than 25 years now.

Jobe said as a “key player” in Gambia’s tourism sector development, Thomas Cook and staff are “always willing to help” the country’s health and education sectors.
“Tourism brings positive impact in the country because over two hundred thousand Gambians directly benefit from it”, he said.
He said most of the donated items were from Kirsi Holopaomen from Karolinska Sjukhuset Hospital, Sweden.

Senior Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Modou Lamin Jammeh, said the items will help improve the work of his staff, especially in terms of patients’ management.
“The materials will be highly useful, especially the consumables,” he said.
Jammeh promised to use the materials in the “best possible way.”
He added: “Things are not enough for us [here] but thank God we have all these [items] from the gentleman [from TCNE].”
He called on donors to continue assisting the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.
