Former vice president Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang has for the first time made a public statement since her sacking from cabinet last week.
President Barrow shocked the world last week when he sacked four cabinet ministers, including the vice president who is widely credited and admired for her role in weaving together the coalition, which unseated former dictator Yahya Jammeh.

Commenting on her Facebook page yesterday, Madame Tambajang thanked the president for the opportunity to serve as the country’s number 2 while promising to continue fighting for the democracy she helped install in the country.
Below is her brief post:
“On June 29th 2018, I was relieved from my post as Vice President and Minister of Women’s Affairs by H.E, President Adama Barrow.

I thank God Almighty for enabling me to champion the creation and success of Coalition 2016, which uprooted Yahya Jammeh’s 22 year dictatorial regime.
I thank all those who gave and continue to give me tremendous support, including H.E President Adama Barrow; my former cabinet colleagues; Gambian supporters in and out of The Gambia; and international partners, during my tenure in government.
My new mission as a private citizen is to continue championing democracy, sustainable peace and development.
For The Gambia Ever True!”
