FTI to support Gambia’s push for year-round tourism

Renowned tour operator FTI, which resumed operations in The Gambia after a long break, is set to support Destination Gambia realize its year-round tourism goal.

The fourth largest tour operator in Europe headquartered in Munich, Germany, said it will bring tourists from Germany and other parts of Europe during the off season.

It landed its maiden flights last week with 348 tourists from Germany and Slovakia, respectively, and announced it would be flying to Banjul four times a week.

Speaking to The Standard at the Banjul International Airport, general manager of Meeting Point Gambia – a ground tour operator for FTI in the country – Soren Damstrup, explained that their ambition is to introduce The Gambia as an all-year round destination for sustainable tourism development and enhancing economic gains of the hospitality industry.

“We are very thrilled to be able to have this flights not just from Germany but from other source markets like Slovakia and we are hoping for other source markets like Portugal and Spain in our bid to develop The Gambia as an all year-round destination.

“We all know that there is no sustainable tourism just for five months in a year and we believe that there is something the country can offer in the green season.”

He said although The Gambia does not offer one of the biggest of safaris across the continent, its great culture, beautiful beaches and authenticity of the people amongst others, means ‘a very nice holiday’ for many travelers.
