Gambians in Dudley form charitable association

Gambians residing in Dudley United Kingdom have come together to form an association dubbed ‘Gambians’ Dudley Association to support the underprivileged both in UK and back home.
The Association which was recently formed in the West Midlands of England is designed towards helping needy Gambians in Dudley and back home whenever the need arises.
Speaking to The Standard online from his base in Birmingham, the association’s secretary general, Yankuba Sissoho said: “We deemed it necessary to form the association to help Gambians in our mother land, especially in the areas of health, education and agriculture.”

He said although the first objective of forming the association was to bring Gambians residing in that part of the UK together as brothers an sister’s, “But during the process of forming the association’s aims and objectives, we thought of the need to prioritize our people back home, especially the underprivileged.”
“We are definitely committed to playing our part in helping the country and its people fight poverty and inequality. We thought at the essential point that all this cannot be achieved without us coming together as one people with one sense of direction,” he said.
He said the association will organise events with the objective of mobilizing funds which will be used to help Gambians back home.

Sissoho said the association has registered over 30 members so far.
Dudley is a large town in the West Midlands of England, 6 miles (9.7 km) south-east of Wolverhampton and 10.5 miles (16.9 km) north-west of Birmingham.
The town is the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley and in 2011 had a population of 79,379.

The Metropolitan Borough, which includes the towns of Stourbridge and Halesowen, had a population of 312,900. Dudley is sometimes called the capital of the Black Country.
