The Imam of Kanifing Estate, Baba Leigh has called on the Ministry of Health and the country’s striking doctors to engage in dialogue to address the recent palaver in the ministry.
Doctors in public hospitals across the country have begun a sit-down strike on Friday after the 48-hour ultimatum given to the health minister to resign elapsed on Thursday.

Delivering his weekly Friday summon, Imam Leigh seized the occasion to praise the doctors for the indispensible role they play in the society saying that without doctors the whole country will grind to a halt because their work is different as it deals with life itself.

He explained: “Without doctors and health no one, including even myself, will be here to deliver my sermon nor will the president be working too or even security officers who are keeping our country safe.”
However, Imam Leigh said the strike will not help the situation and the solution to the problem is for both parties to sit down and in order to resolve the matter.

“We are dealing here with human beings who are the most important assets of the creator and therefore we should act humanely because no one would like to be responsible for the death of others, since it is the worst that could befall any human being,” he warned.

He continued: “As human beings we are all bound to make mistakes but if we make one, we have to accept it. The one who makes mistake should acknowledge the mistake and apologise. The country needs to move on now as a nation. We have suffered a lot for the past two decades and now is the time for us to unite as one people and move on to develop our country.”

The Imam also seized the occasion to advise public officers to be rightful in their conducts and dutiful to the people in performance of their services, as they will be held accountable by their creator.
