Imam Ba-Kawsu Fofana has called on the leaders of the country’s political parties to form a “coalition” and allow Ousainu Darboe to lead them to put a lid on incessant political disputes in the country. He urged President Adama Barrow to return to his former party and refrain from contesting the December polls.

Delivering a sermon at the Friday congregational at his mosque in Sanchaba Sulay Jobe last Friday, the vocal preacher stated: “I am calling on all the political parties in the country particularly the UDP, NPP, and APRC to form a coalition and rally behind Darboe. There are many political parties in this country, but these three political parties are the main political problems of The Gambia. The political enmity, bigotry and insults in this country are emanating from the fractured relations between these three main political parties, UDP, NPP, APRC. If they come together as one, all the political problems the country is facing will be resolved.”

He added: “I am appealing to President Adama Barrow not to contest the forthcoming election. Let him go back to his former party, the UDP and reconcile with Ousainu Darboe. That will end the political dispute between him and Darboe. If President Barrow follows this advice, he will not be subjected to accountability, have his accounts and assets frozen, or be subjected to insults and maximum security will be provided for him. He and his family will be paid monthly salaries like it is done for former president Jawara.”

Imam Fofana also called on former president, Yahya Jammeh, to instruct his supporters including Fabakary Tombang Jatta and others to work with the UDP.

“You are all Muslims and you share the same country, therefore, you should come together as one family and have dialogue.”

Imam Fofana called on businessman Alhaji Salifu Jaiteh, tycoon Alhaji Alagie Conteh, deputy governor of West Coast Region, Musa Suso, and other distinguished elders in the country to engage the parties in dialogue and make his idea of a grand coalition a reality.

The imam however did not say why Darboe should lead his grand coalition instead of President Barrow or Fabakary Tombong Jatta.
