International customs expert meeting opens

A three–day meeting of experts from the west and central African block of the World Customs Organisation, WCO, opened at the Cocoa Ocean Hotel in Banjul Monday attended by 23 countries.
This is the 19th edition of the meeting.

According to the Commissioner General of Gambia Revenue Authority Yankuba Darboe, the meeting is to evaluate the activities of the regions as well as prepare the grounds for the summit of Director Generals next year.

Mr Darboe said The Gambia under the new government has given GRA support and encouragement to host the meeting and his office was very delighted to host the international conference.
The meeting was officially opened by the Vice President Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang who spoke of the important role of customs as the engine driving economies across the continent.
