By Amadou  M.  Jadama Sheriff S.  Sarr, the proprietor of Sarr Construction Group and Independent candidate for Jeshwang constituency, has dispelled rumours taking rounds that the APRC is sponsoring him. Sarr was speaking during a press conference on Saturday held at his office in Kanifing South. “The purpose of this press conference is to clarify my position in this forthcoming National Assembly election.  There are rumors rife in town that I was sponsored by APRC, which is completely unfounded and baseless. “I am not contesting under any political party and no party is sponsoring me. I used to be a Councillor for Jeshwang Ward under APRC before but I resigned. I am no longer affiliated with APRC party,” he emphasized. “Different political parties approached me to run under their ticket but I decided to consult my people again, discussed with them and we agreed on one thing: that I should contest under Independent ticket. I sponsor myself. I went to the Independent Electoral Commission and I was nominated as an Independent Candidate. I have my own company, Sarr Construction Group, and I printed my own T-Shirts with the slogan ‘we Gambians’ and my color is black.” Sarr said he brought lot of development projects in his constituency such as taps, roads and sponsoring UTG students. He called on electorates to continue maintaining peace, saying that Gambia is one family. Eleman Kah, Sarr’s campaign manager, added: “This is the first time Sheriff is contesting as an Independent candidate. Five candidates were contesting including himself for Jeshwang. They have to believe that he is an Independent. H e is not under any party.” Ebrima Mbye urged the Independent Electoral Commission to sensitize people about the differences between an independent candidate and someone contesting under a political party. He called on people to vote for Sheriff as he is the right candidate. For his part, Njaga Jammeh, vice president for ‘we Gambians’ also called on the electorates to vote for Sheriff and invited people to the launching on Saturday at Paradise Suites Hotel.]]>
