‘JUST ACT’ embarks on campaign to end FGM in CRR

Janjanbureh United for Sustainable Tourism and Community Training (JUST ACT) has commenced a symbolic campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation in CRR.
They embarked on series of activities at Kaur Jannehkunda in Lower Saloum District, Central River Region north (CRR\n), Janjangbureh, Bansang and Brikamaba and the sensitization targeted youth, religious scholars and women leaders. The activities were funded by The Girl Generation (TGG).

Addressing the participants, the director of JUST Act Omar Jammeh, said the sensitization was aimed at enlightening the public on the health implications of FGM.
“If anyone who practises FGM will face the full force of the law. It is a harmful traditional practice which affects the health of women and the girl child,” he said.
He commended the participants and facilitators for their enormous commitment in contributing to end FGM in the Gambia.

He said it should be a social responsibility for every citizen to participate so as to end all cultural and traditional activities affecting the wellbeing of people.
Other speakers included the Alkalo of Janneh Kunda Sainey Janneh and Ebrima Keita the youth chairperson for Lower Saloum District.
