The widow of Mahawa Cham has called on the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission to get to the bottom of her husband’s killing and bring his killers to justice.
Addressing the commission members during their countrywide tour in Mansa Konko yesterday, Isatou Fatty described her late husband as “a true son of the country who was always ready to serve his people whenever the need arose”.

Mahawa Cham, the former APRC National Assembly Member fell out of favour and fled the country, setting up base in Senegal.
He was alleged to have been kidnapped by Baboucarr Jarju and Suwandi Camara in Senegal and brought to The Gambia were he was reported to have been murdered.

“Mahawa Cham had two wives with kids. He was kidnapped in Senegal and since then we have not seen or heard from him. We hear he has been killed. We have suffered a lot. We hope the perpetrators will be brought to justice one day and truth will prevail in the commission,” she said.
“We have gone through a lot of pain but we cannot do anything but to surrender everything to the will of Allah,” she concluded.

Mahawa’s alleged kidnappers, Jarju and Camara, were accused of the murder of Mr Cham, arrested and arraigned before a high court in Banjul. They have since been released on bail.
