Mayor Bah announces reelection bid

Even with about a year to go before the local Government election, the race for the prestigious job of Mayor of Banjul is alreay hot with the several names already surfacing. The latest and perhaps the biggest fish to join the fray is imcumbent Mayor Aboulie Bah who over the weekend called a rally to announce he will be running again in the April 2018 polls.

Bah who took office as an Independent candidate defeating Samba Fall in 2013, had earlier served as a councillor for Campama ward from 1987 to 1994.
Revealing his intention before hundreds of his supporters on Saturday at Mosque road,  Bah said he is seeking re-election so as to  accomplish an un-finished business at the council.

“Though we have done tremendously well over the years in terms of development and bringing the people of the capital together, as a council we believe there is still a lot to be done especially in the new dispensation to take Banjul to another level,” he said.

Mayor Bah vowed that his next term will not only bring more development, but will maintain the unity, patriotism and voluntarism that have helped Banjul to progress this far.
“I will continue to work towards the rehabilitation of roads, and put in place a proper drainage system in Banjul.I am committed to bringing the diverse people of Banjul into one strong and sustainable community, and determined to stay focused on  the core values and on the strategic priorities that will make the city stronger and sustainable,” Bah said.

Two others, Bye Malleh Wadda, a businessman and former  verstile  Gambian sports international and Ebrima Jawo, formerly an actor on popular GRTS local film series, have also announced their intentions on social media. A relibal source in Banjul said many more are expected to join the race in the coming months.
