Network Against Gender-Based Violence holds AGM

By Baba Sillah Members of the Network Against Gender-Based Violence yesterday converged at the NaNA conference hall in Kanifing to select new executives that will steer the affairs of the organisation for the upcoming years. The event which was organised by young activists and some senior intellectuals, drawn participants from other CSOs, civil servants and journalists. The meeting also witnessed the appointment of an audit firm, presentation of annual report and financial statement of the organisation and discusses the way forward for the organisation. Welcoming the participants, Ms Antoinette Corr, who chaired the event, gave a historical formation of the organisation and implored members to live up to expectation and work hard to achieve desired goals. Speaking on behalf of the executive director of Action Aid International The Gambia, Fanta Jatta-Sowe, assured the gathering of the AAITG’s readiness and commitment to working with them. She also told them of the importance of “transparency and accountability in order to ensure good governance.” Matilda Mendy, a representative from the Ministry of Justice also assured the members of the ministry’s commitment in fighting against gender based violence. “The fight against gender based violence requires dedication of time and resources since government alone cannot fight against it,” Mendy said.]]>
