The chief executive of Newcastle County in Delaware, USA, has officially declared July 8th a day of commemoration in honor of the Kanifing Municipal Council in The Gambia.
Mathew Meyer, who was in The Gambia on a week-long visit as a guest of the KMC, made this proclamation during his farewell speech at the Council chambers on Tuesday.
“By virtue of the authority vested in me by over 560,000 Americans living in the First County of the First state of the United States, I do hereby proclaim today [July 8] Kanifing Municipal Council Day in Newcastle County,” Meyer announced.
Having conducted a tour presided by Mayor Bensouda and his council members in areas within the Municipality, the New Castle County leader shares his impression on projects that are expected to kick-start during this partnership including waste management, tax collection and geographic information systems.
According to Mr Meyer, the week-long visit has availed him and team the opportunities to come to terms with strategic areas of cooperation expected to be forged between the KMC and Newcastle County premised on mutual benefits of their peoples.
Meyer hailed the Delaware Africa Caribbean Coalition for making his visit to the Gambia a success as well as the generosity of Mayor Bensouda and his team.
Mr. Meyer presented Mayor Bensouda a challenge coin to remind him about “core virtues of honesty, transparency, and efficiency.”
Mayor Bensouda showed appreciation for the gesture and took the opportunity to reassure his people. “My team and I at the Kanifing Municipal Council are committed to following up on the opportunities emerging from this visit and working towards a stronger and deeper partnership, between Kanifing and Newcastle County.”
