The Turkish power-production company, Karpowership has reached out again, this time donating rice, sugar, and dates to more than 150 underprivileged families in The Gambia.

The donation happened yesterday morning at the company’s main offices in Fajara, where hundreds thronged to receive the provisions ahead of this year’s Ramadan.

Speaking shortly before the presentation, Yankuba Mamburay, the company’s country manager, reminded how Karpowership became synonymous with such gestures since the start of its operations in the country in 2018.

“It’s important to help the poor and the needy and that is why we are not only focusing on electricity generation and supply alone,” he said. “Ramadan is at the corner and Islam values this [helping the needy] – we have to share.”

Mr. Maburay said Karpowership has always endeavored to assist every sector of the Gambian economy. “I think many Gambians are aware of this,” he told the convergence. “We will continue to do this.

Beneficiaries took home each a bag of rice, sugar, and four packs of dates. They included men and women, and a few soldiers of the GAF.

One of them, in a short speech, thanked the Turkish company for the gesture, saying: “Prayers made this donation possible. May Allah, in turn, continue to bless the company and those who made this possible,” an elated Sheriff Bajo said.
