Papa Njie is new PPP leader

By Lamin Cham Papa Njie, a former KM mayor aspirant has been elected secretary general and leader of the People’s Progressive Party, PPP. At the end of a three-day national congress at YMCA, delegates elected Mr Njie who won with 272 votes against Mr Dabo’s 227 votes. The congress marked the revival of the party that led Gambia to independence in 1965 under first president Sir Dawda Jawara. At the opening of the congress, senior member and veteran politician Yaya Ceesay announced the coming back of the PPP which he said is the party that laid the egg that hatched to deliver the country we called The Gambia. Omar Amadou Jallow, who until now ran the affairs of the party resisting Jammeh’s dictatorship, called on party militants to realise that the Elephant has awaken, adding that the party shall continue to play its role in Gambian politics which it successfully shaped before the tyrant interrupted in 1994. He paid tribute to former President Sir Dawda Jawara for visionary and caring leadership.]]>
