Rawdat mourns windstorm victims

Majmouatou Rawdatul Majaalis, the organisation that serves as the mouthpiece of all Imams and heads of Majlisoolu/Daara in The Gambia, has issued a statement mourning the death of victims killed by the recent windstorm as well as commiserate with those who lost properties. A statement from the body reads:

“The entire Gambian nation was tried by a rainstorm that left in its wake a trail of destruction of monumental proportion. Scores of casualties have been reported, several homes destroyed and high-voltage lines affected by fallen trees leading to electricity outage and water supply shortage in many parts of the country.

According to a statement by the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, over 3,000 people have been affected, 1,500 persons displaced and 10 persons killed so far.

Given the scale of the disaster and the fact that its impact had been felt nationwide, Majmouatou Rawdatul Majaalis hereby expresses its grief and pain to the people directly affected in particular and to the people of The Gambia in general.

At this moment of general public anguish as a result of a large-scale natural disaster, Rawdat appeals to the sense of solidarity of all Gambians and calls upon every person capable of providing assistance in both cash and kind to do so for the immediate relief of the victims.

Rawdat prays that Allah the Almighty provide instant relief to the victims, grant them the fortitude and resilience that would enable them to recover immediately from the disaster’s impact and make the sorrowful incident a blessing in disguise for the victims and people of The Gambia. May Allah the omnipotent protect us from such a calamity forever….”
