German organisation Small Steps in partnership with the Gambia Association of the Physically Disabled (GAPD) recently donated medical items to the Department of Social Welfare in Banjul.
The items were meant for distribution to persons with disability in order to make mobility easier for them. They include walking aides, wheelchairs, diabetes shoes and others.
Yahya Muhammed Bah, the president of GAPD, applauded Small Steps for partnering to support people with disabilities in The Gambia.

He urged government, NGOs, philanthropists, and the private sector to emulate Small Steps in order to help better the plight of disables.
Jankoba Jabbi, the director of the Department of Social Welfare, thanked the donors and said the donation could not have come at a better time.
He said the department was “very much in need” of the items.
He called on Gambians to always consider the plight of disables and push their interests forward.
“Disability does not mean inability”, he added.
