VP assures World Bank team of progress

Vice President Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang has said that The Gambia is still not independent economically because it still depends on donor funded grants to support the Government.
She said the new government has started to rebuild a broken economy characterized by a huge debt burden and limited resources to transform the country.

“But we appreciate the financial assistance that has been provided by the World Bank and IMF with the strategic budget support to restructure the Government and our debt situation,” she said.
Madame Jallow was addressing the World Bank mission currently in the Gambia. She said the Gambia’s National Development Plan, the strategic document will transform economy. “The Government is transforming the legal system and we have set up the commission of inquiry; it’s the only way to stabilize the country,” she said.
