The gruesome sight of a badly wounded corpse of a young lady, identified only as Vanisah, has outraged onlookers and the nation yesterday.

The body was found dumped in a street at Manjai Kunda, drawing a large crowd and a frenzy of activity by police who went into action trying to make sense of the shocking incident.
According to police sources, one Sheikh Hydara, 34, has been arrested in connection with what is believed to be a murder case which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Assistant Police PRO Foday Conta said the matter was reported to the police in the Kanifing Region and a team of investigators was instantly dispatched to the area. He said after the necessary procedures, the investigators drove the body to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
Conta added that as investigations continued some people were arrested in connection with the matter, including one Sheikh Hydara. The police assistant spokesman said investigations revealed that on Sunday night Miss. Vanisah, who was later identified by a relative as an Ivorian born to a Senegalese mother, went to Lynnes Lodge in Manjai Kunda with Sheikh Hydara of Tallinding.

“During the interrogation, Mr. Hydara explained that as he was with Miss Vanisah having some drinks at a local bar, they decided to go into a lodge where he paid for a room,” Conta said.
The police quoted Mr Hydara: “Vanisah decided to take shower while I was waiting and suddenly I noticed that she fell down in the bathroom and blood was oozing from her nose. In the early hours of Sunday morning I decided to get her in my car with the help of some people in the lodge.”

However according to assistant PRO Conta, after an investigation led by the regional police commissioner Landing Bojang and the regional Crime Management Coordinator ACP Pateh Bah, concluded strongly that there could be foul play surrounding Miss Vanisah’s demise.
In the mean time, he noted, the body of the late Vanisah is at the mortuary at EFSTH for a medical examination to further help the investigation whilst the suspect Sheikh Hydara is under custody.
