Press release

It has been brought to the attention of the Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure that commercial drivers are charging fares on various routes in the country above the approved 2017 tariff set under the Motor Traffic Act Section (4) of The MTA. This practice is even more prevalent on the Westfield- Brikama Route. This is illegal, and drivers are advised to desist from overcharging their passengers.

Drivers and their union representatives are reminded that there are formal modalities in reviewing and adjusting transport fares in the country, and charging fares above the official tariff rates is illegal under the motor traffic laws of The Gambia.

The general public is advised to note that the prevailing road transport tariff for both passengers and goods, is the 2017 approved tariff. The Inspector General of Police by this notice is reminded to fully enforce the law. As such, any attempt to disregard the existing tariff will result to the full application of the law on the culprits.

The understanding and cooperation of the general public especially the drivers, is highly solicited.
