Youth for Human Rights International President due in Gambia

The President of Youth for Human Rights International is due to visit the Gambia this week as part of her annual world human rights tour.
According to a press release issued by Youth for Human Rights The Gambia under the auspices of Beakanyang, Dr. Mary Shuttleworth will be visiting The Gambia from 13-17 March 2018.

Dr Mary Shuttleworth, Ed.D., president of YHRI, has led the annual global outreach project literally circling the globe over a dozen times since 2004, visiting 90 countries and meeting with youth, educators, community leaders, and legislators as well as various dignitaries, including kings, heads of government and officials of the United Nations and Commonwealth of Nations to promote the implementation of Human Rights Education.

This is the 15th World Educational Tour 2018, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, will circle the globe to countries and regions including Cambodia, Costa Rica, India, Mexico, Taiwan, and The Gambia.
The purpose of US based YHRI is to teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace.

This is YHRI’s chief first visit to the country and during her visit she will be meeting with senior government officials including the President of the Republic, cabinet ministers and diplomats and would also visit human rights clubs in schools.

Dr Mary’s visit came as a result of the commitment of the New Government under the leadership of H.E President Barrow to promote human rights in the Gambia and the work being carried out by Beakanyang and its partnership such as US Embassy to promote human rights education in the country.

She will be visiting with The Gambia with Kasey Orthmann of Youth for Human Rights International.
YHRI is headquartered in Los Angeles in United States of America with branches and chapters in over 100 countries across the world including The Gambia.
