Re: UDP reveals evidence of elections malpractice

Dear Editor,

Have you ever seen anywhere in the world where an election result is overturned without protests? The role of an opposition leader is to be ready to even die for the people they represent but Darboe’s stance in this situation gave the green light to the supreme court to dismiss the case because they faced no pressure from the opposition.

Darboe should have called for nationwide protests. That way all other parties would have joined the general public and render the country ungovernable until results were overturned. Then the supreme court would have had no choice but accept public demand and call for fresh elections.

That is what is expected from a real opposition leader than going to the media crying like baby. I am of the belief that UDP had lost all their hardcore patriotic supporters who would not have accepted this. Solo Sandeng of blessed memory would have called for nationwide protests with or without Darboe’s approval. Darboe can call himself Mandela but Mandela was willing to die for his people.

Dear Editor,

Is this what’s all the noise of elections rigging is about? I was waiting for something more substantial to tell the Gambian people. Who has not induced voters? How many projects have Mamma Kandeh sponsored to induce voters? How many tournaments were captured on videos with cooking pots given by the United Democratic Party? It is like saying we went to play in the African Nations Cup but the host Cameroon has more taller players than us the Scorpions so we are appealing the game because we lost to them. In law, it is said whoever comes to equity must come with clean hands.

Dear Editor,

If UDP has The Gambia at heart they should have extended an olive branch to the other political parties. They do not! And God had the final say. The United Democratic Party have more lawyers than any other political party in The Gambia, why didn’t they prepare themselves and follow the procedures to present all the so-called evidences they have before the court?

Dear Editor,

My question is, before and during the campaign, the UDP and the party supporters gave things to people, for example, the food bank initiative. Are those legal or illegal? Please let UDP accept the defeat and forge ahead and my advice is let them go back to the drawing board and fix their own problems by telling people the truth.

Dear Editor,

I’m disappointed with what UDP presented as evidence of election fraud and malpractice. I did not see any tangible evidence or smoking gun. I think Mr Darboe should retire from politics now. Just my humble advice.

Re: Ecowas must end coups

Before thinking of ending coup d’etats in West Africa, let Ecowas flush out corruption and corrupt leaders in the sub-region. Corruption and abuse of office are the root causes of coups in Africa.

Dear Editor,

First of all, let Ecowas stop the madness of presidents who are manipulating their country’s constitutions to get third terms or extension of their stay in power.

Then they can establish a rapid intervention force that will be drawn from the armies of all Ecowas member states and give them the mandate to intervene in any member state where a military coup occurs.
