Instead, according to the GFF, a new body independent of both camps would be responsible for football there.

Speaking on Afri-Radio, the technical director of the GFF, Ebrima Manneh, said the measure is taken to prevent clashes between the two factions as well as allow the innocent young footballers to play the game they like under the overall development plan of the GFF.

‘Both camps have not shown readiness to reconcile despite all the efforts the GFF and other local stakeholders have put in the search for a solution to the impasse,” he said.

Manneh also disclosed that the URR regional league will be a 12-team league but some 40 teams, 10 from Basse and the remaining 30 from the six districts in the region would have to play in the qualifiers to get to the final 12 slots. “This was the model all stakeholders agreed on and it will now be the duty of this ad-hoc committee to organise it,” Manneh said.

Commenting on his feelings about the saga coming from the area himself, Manneh said the interest of the young players should supersede any other thing and he called on the stakeholders to make peace as soon as possible.
