Gambia midfielder Ebrima Sohna has pledged to support the Salahudeen Islamic Institute by beginning the construction of three classrooms for the school located in New Yundum.
The Scorpion international, who is currently on vacation after ending the season in the Finnish Veikkausliiga with Vaasan Palloseura, paid a visit to the institute at the weekend where he received first-hand information about the school and their constraints before pledging the building of three classrooms, constructions of which is already underway.

Salahudeen Islamic Institute’s vision is “to produce students with high qualification in Islamic studies, culture and career” as well as creating “different opportunity and domains for meaningful contribution for the service of the society”.

The former Wallidan, FC Vostok and Rovaniemen Palloseura hard-tackling midfielder recalled how he came across the condition of the institute before making a visit.
“I came to visit the school myself after I saw images of the condition on social media while in Finland and when I came home (to Gambia); I decided to come and see the conditions the children were learning under.”
“When I came, I was touched and it was an emotional visit as I saw that the classrooms were not properly built and with sand, so I made a promise that I will support them by building three new classrooms and continue my support to them.”

Honourable Saikouba Jarjue, the National Assembly Member for Busumbala constituency, who is a board member at the school, thanked the former Sandefjord and Kuopion Palloseura midfielder for the gesture before praying for his continued success and well-being.

Sohna, who is kind-hearted and also known for giving back to communities, further explained why he loves spending his time in his home country and how he sees the nature of the people.
“One thing I like about the Gambia is that the people are always happy and even though they don’t have much, they are still happy nevertheless. It’s just nice to see how these kids still learn in such conditions and they are still happy, I hope with the building of these new classrooms and with a little upgrade, they will be more happier.”

The 29-year-old promised that this is only one of the charitable works he will be undertaking as he plans to give back to needy communities around the country.
