Gambian striker Erik Stafford is training with German second tier side FC St. Pauli with a view to earning a move. The 20-year-old will spend three days trying to impress the club’s U23s coaching staff at the Millerntor-Stadion.

Erik, born in Oslo to a Gambian father Emma, is a lanky forward who can also feature in either wings and scored twelve goals in his first season with Norwegian club Sarpsborg 08 reserves.
St. Pauli, currently occupying seventh-position on the German second-tier league, has invited the striker to return again during the winter break for further tests before making a decision.

“I am training with them but I will be back in January for two-three weeks because the coach said he wanted me back even though they have many attackers in the team,” the former Sarpsborg 08 U19 forward exclusively told Gambia Sports.

Stafford was invited to train with coach Omar Sise’s U20 squad last year before the team’s return leg preliminary round qualifier in the African Youth Championship against Sierra Leone.
He has favored playing for the Scorpions of Gambia over his birth country.
