GIRLS AT WAR Nigeria vs Gambia in crucial tie opener Wednesday

With the men’s African Cup of nations appearance still an unrealisable dream, focus now shifts to the African women’s Cup of nations where the Gambia’s Girls Scorpions have only Nigeria to remove in their path to reach that summit.

But that’s where the biggest task in their history also comes to play.
The first leg will be in Banjul on Wednesday with The Super Falcons already airborne in spirit and literally on their way to Banjul.

The quality is not comparable but victory is never guaranteed for any tie until a match is played and the Gambian girls are steely determined to cause an upset at least in the home leg.
“Gambians must first appreciate the achievement already made by the team in reaching the last qualifying tie. Our expectations must be measured but our desire must be big,” said GFF women’s football coordinator Sainey Sissohore on West Coast Radio.

Meanwhile, the GFF Events Management Committee has announced that entrance to the match is free. According to EMC Chairman Willy Abraham, the move is to encourage all fans to turn up in their numbers and support the girls in their quest for a place at the next AWCON tournament in Ghana, 2018.
The match will kick off at 4pm local time.
