Heroes Hawks FC pulled a spectacular performance to beat host Akwa United 2-1 in Uyo City Sunday in Nigeria.
The victory put the Gambian side one foot into the next round of the prestigious Caf Confederation Cup preliminary qualifying tie.

Playing away in Nigeria Hawks shocked the host with two first half goals from Lamin Chatty and Mohammed Jallow before the host could pull one back.
The Nigerians huffed and puffed but could not undo Hawks’ victory.
The host had to coil back to their homes without the much anticipated roasting of the Hawks as they vowed to do. It turned out that the Hawks flew above them to safe landing. The next leg of the qualifiers on February 21 will of course find the Hawks in their own nest in Banjul. How much unity is left of Akwa after the Hawks victory remains to be seen on Febraury 21.

GAF loses in Zambia
However champions Gambia Armed Forces FC lost heavily to Zanaco FC of Zambia on Saturday by 3-0 in the first leg preliminary round of the CAF Champions League match played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
A goal from skipper Ziyo Tembo and a Martin Phiri brace gave the Bankers a very comfortable advantage going into the second fixture with a clean sheet.
Zanaco’s new boy Chadva Maisha who left Buildcon on a Bosman, started his first competitive game for the Bankers.

According to Soka25east.com weather conditions were very wet with many fans on social media suggesting that the fixture could be postponed but it wasn’t the case as both sides came out to battle at Nkoloma.
Ziyo Tembo put Zanaco ahead in the 34th minute before another goal came and minute later in the 35th minute via Martin Phiri’s headed effort.
The second half well contested saw very few goal scoring opportunities for the visitors who were desperate for an away goal.

Martin Phiri wrapped up the win for Zanaco with his second of the game to toast a very good debut for the Zambian side.
