Officials of the National Sports Council, NSC, the organizers of the May Day Sports , the popular mass sport that thrills every worker on May Day, have said that the annual event will go ahead this year contrary to many views that the government has stopped it .

Aboulie Bojang, Ablo, a senior official at the NSC told The Standard that following government’s decision not to provide funds for any government agencies to spend on May Day sports, many thought that the event will not happen. “That is a misconception. The event will take place as usual on the 1st May and all private and public companies and departments who can pay for themselves are free to participate. In fact dozens of companies including new ones have already paid their registration while others are queuing to register,” he said.

According to the NSC, the event will feature its popular sports such as the Tug of war, greasy pole and musical chair among others. The winners and all participating companies will be feted to a dinner for ten people from each company a week after the event. Bojnag urged companies and other bodies interested to hurry and pay the registration fee id D20,000which qualifies the participating team to the dinner.
