The national football league continues to produce intriguing results that entrail a growing stream of fans at the Stadium for the night matches.

The finals First Round fixtures saw Fortune FC opening up a solid seven-point gap with victory over second place Gambia Armed Forces while title rivals Real de Banjul under new coach Malleh managed only a draw against Banjul United as Ports Authority suffered a defeat.

Salifu Saho’s 66th minute goal for Fortune extended their unbeaten run and lead on the table standings to seven points on Friday night.

Fortune’s Bakary Jawara’s effort at goal was poorly cleared by GAF goalkeeper, providing chance for the advance agile Salifu Saho to rush and slot the ball in to give an all- important goal for Fortune.

The soldiers regrouped but couldn’t penetrate the Fortune defense line who conceded only two goals in thirteen games with eleven clean sheets.

In the late kick off on Friday, Bye Malleh Wadda marked his return as Real de Banjul boss with a thrilling, but disappointing goalless draw against city neighbours, Banjul United.

On Saturday in the early kick- off, Gambia Ports Authority suffered another blow to their title aspiration with a narrow one-nil loss to stubborn Waa Banjul when Ebrima Camara’s flawless free-kick hit the back of the net to seal victory for Waa Banjul.

Elite United and BK Millan played a four- goal thriller with Millan coming from a two-nil trailing to equal the scoreboard.

Bakary Tambedou and Lamarana Jallow scored two goals in quick succession for Elite United.  BK Millan though did’nt throw the towel and Buba Jammeh pulled one back on the stroke of half time before returning to cancel Elite United’s lead with a second goal in the 65th minute after he has splendidly assisted by substitute Wally Fofana.

That game formally marked the end of first round in the league.
