REJECTED GFF CANDIDATES FILE APPEAL

All five candidates disqualified by the GFF Electoral Committee in the Malcik Sillah camp have filed an appeal against the decision taken against them
Essa Jallow spokesman of the Silah camp told The Standard yesterday that the appeals are just one of the options taken to get the GFF ‘back to their senses’. Mr Jallow said he cannot discuss the details of the points raised in the appeal but generally there is a clear case that the Electoral Committee was spoonfed by the GFF to rely on erroneous points devised by them which are not found either in the constitution or the electoral code.

“It was also obvious that the Electoral Committee committed fundamental and school boy mistakes by rushing to reach decisions that are only based on telephone conversations instead of written and concrete communications of evidence for the clubs or the people they claimed to contact before disqualifying candidates in an important exercise like an election,” Mr Jallow said. He added that it is clearly suspicious to any right thinking person that a body which has up to seven days to properly scrutinize a process should come out with half baked decisions in just a day or two after the nominations closed. “We strongly believe that the appeal committee will do the right to bring back sanity,” he concluded.

Meanwhile a short statement   from the Sillah camp shared with The Standard stated:
“Team Malick Sillah has filed a petition against the decision of the Electoral Committee. The team will follow all procedures and the dictates of the constitution. The team will exhaust all possible legal means including court actions. What is certain is that there will be no elections if any of our candidates is unjustifiably denied to participate in the forthcoming GFF elections.”
