The Rotary Club of Fajara Wednesday handed valuable cricket materials to the Gambia Cricket Association, at a ceremony held at the association Headquarters at McCarthy Square in Banjul.
The donated items which were contained in twenty-four boxes include senior and junior gloves, thigh pads, four sets of batting pads, shocks, jerseys and hard rubber balls.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the president of The Gambia Cricket Association Mr. Johny Gomez expressed gratitude to the Fajara Rotary Club and hailed the efforts of the former Minister of Youth and Sports Henry Gomez in facilitating the donation. He described the gesture as timely and expressed optimism about the relationship between the association and the Rotary Club.

“We are very much grateful to the Rotary Club of Fajara. Actually, this was facilitated by former Minister Henry Gomez and we really thank him for his efforts. The materials are mainly for junior players and they come at a right time as we are preparing for the summer, the under 19 tournament, and the new season. We are really grateful and looking forward to more donations,” Johnny said.
The Secretary General of the Rotary Club of Fajara Mr. Rossell Cryer said the materials were obtained from a cricket club in United Kingdom and the donation is geared towards cricket development in the country. He reaffirmed the club’s commitment to add value to the lives of Gambians.

“We donated these cricketing items from a cricket club in United Kingdom and we are here to handover the materials as part of our contribution to cricket development in The Gambia. We got pretty much everything you need for the game of cricket ranging from bats, stumps, balls and pads for safety in the game. I think it is marvelous we can do this sort of things and we will continue to add value to the lives of Gambians through other initiatives.”
