Gambia captain Penda Bah has described tomorrow’s women’s AFCON qualifiers against champions Nigeria as a great moment that should be relished rather than be feared.
Bah and her colleagues eliminated Burkina Faso to reach this last stage – a two-legged tie against the best female players in Africa if not the world in the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
However the Gambian captain has vowed to fight to the end, saying playing against Nigeria is itself an inspiration.

“We understand the fact that they are Africa’s most successful team and more so defending champions which we are going to treasure and respect but it is not something to sway us away from focusing on our quest to make it for the first time. What makes it interesting is the fact that we are all locally based players. We know what winning against Nigeria will write for us and we are focus on that.

“Actually we have little or no knowledge about the Nigerian aside from the fact that they are 8 times continental champions .So we’ll give it our best shot,” she told The Standard Monday.
Meanwhile the Falcons have landed and are known to include ten professional players, indicating the cahmpions are not takeing Gambia as minnows. The match kicks off at 4 pm tomorrow and no entrance fee is required.
