Sierra Leone's most celebrated writer Yulisa Amadu Maddy aka Pat Maddy died on 16 March 2014 at the age of 77. With his demise, Sierra Leone has lost its equivalent of Soyinka, Brecht and Pope; an angry and recalcitrant writer, whose writings have been described as rebellious, sharp edged and liberating. Pat's 1973 novel No Past, No Present, No Future about a trio of deracinated African youth émigrés to USA, won numerous accolades and critical acclaim.
