The competition also opens the way for qualification into the Youth Olympics games slated for China late this year.
With just a few days before the championship opens The Standard yesterday contacted Gambia athletics officials of their preparations. The association’s president Dodou Joof said they have assembled a very strong and skillful team of six athletes in the 100, 200, and 400 meters relay. He disclosed that they are now in touch with the Ministry for Youth and Sports to see whether they can facilitate the trip of the national youth athletics team. He said the GAA is also working on getting two tickets from the African body. If the Gambia could finish among the best two nations, the country’s athletes would qualify to the youth Olympics in China.
