Another man Ba S Jabbie, president of the Brufut Zonal Committee and member of the National Super Nawetaan Organising Committee is a member as well as Haddy Sillah-Njie. It is not clear who the other members are as we went to press.
The news of the confirmation of Sillah and his committee’s appointment came by way of a statement from the world football governing body Fifa received at the Gambia Football Federation secretariat yesterday.
As we went to press, the GFF confirmed receiving communication from Fifa but said they are working on all the official procedures to be followed by a media release on the matter.
The appointment of the NC was agreed at a Fifa emergency meeting of July 10 during which it removed the GFF executive using Article 7 of its statutes. The decision was greeted with disapproval by a large pool of representatives of clubs and regional football associations who appealed to Fifa to restore the GFF board. It is not yet indicated when the committee would be inaugurated. According to Fifa, the five-man committee will organise elections by September 15. It also said none of the five will be able to contest that elections.
Artictle 7 of the Fifa statutes states that Fifa’s executive committee can in exceptional circumstances remove a national football association’s board and replace it with a normalisation committee. Fifa justified its move citing age-cheating which they say Caf used to suspend The Gambia. The ousted GFF board had always denied age-cheating saying an administrative error is to blame for the whole saga.
