Assembly wants internal peaceful solution

By Aminata Ceesay The members of the National Assembly during an adjournment debate last week, called for a peaceful way of settling the current political crisis and allow the rule of law to prevail. The adjournment debate was moved by the Honourable Majority Leader Fabakary Tombong Jatta, who called for a peaceful internal handling of the crisis rather than allowing foreign forces to intervene. “As parliamentarians we should ensure that our beloved country and its people live in peace and prosperity,” he remarked. He further took the opportunity to thank all Parliamentarians for their good work over the past years in serving the interest of the people. He said this might be his last address as a parliamentarian, and further thanked his electorates whom he said elected him to represent them for the past two decades. In seconding the motion, the NAM for Sabach Sanjal Hon. Ousman Bah also reiterated the need for the maintenance of peace in resolving the current situation. He also shifted to matters affecting his constituency noting that one area within his constituency lacks a health facility and called for consideration on that issue. Hon. Abdoulie Saine NAM Banjul Central, also called for peace saying that Gambians should ensure the rule of law to prevail in addressing the current situation. Babou Gaye Sonko on his part quoted the proverbial phrase: “If you think peace is expensive. Try instability”. Hon. Lamin Saine Nominated Member on his part cited some of the countries that had gone foreign intervention in resolving their own problems which ended up dismantled with too much bloodshed. “If you look at what happened in Liberia with foreign intervention, Syria and even in the Gambia during the 1981 failed coup when foreign forces came; a lot of people lost their lives and properties,” he said. He further said that Gambians should solve their problems as one big family. Many others including Hon. Buba Bojang NAM for Foni Kansala all called for peaceful resolution of the current impasse.]]>
