The Standard has learnt that Mr Touray was released on police bail Wednesday evening. However, this paper could not ascertain his bail conditions. Mr Touray was neither charged with an offence nor arraigned since his detention.

When contacted by this paper, police spokesperson ASP David Kujabi said he was unaware of the former governor’s detention.

Mr Touray had served as the governor of the country’s biggest local administrative region, landmass wise for eight years.

The circumstances surrounding his removal and his current detention are unclear, as no official information has so far been issued publicly.

Meanwhile, the chief of Nianija, Alasan David Cham, who was sacked during the president’s recent Dialogue With the People Tour, has been reinstated.
