The issue of violence has proved to be the only drawback in this most popular tournament but according to the SOC, there are concrete plans to avert any chances of violence. Among the measures being contemplated is a severe penalty for any zone guilty of inciting violence. Sharing similar concerns, the Gambia Football Federation promised the SOC it will allow top elite referees to officiate the matches. Allegations of unfair refereeing have also been blamed as the cause of some of the violence that has marred the championship.
“Now we can expect to see the likes of Papa Gassama and others in the middle of the field during Super Nawettan matches,” GFF publicity and marketing officer Bakary Baldeh told a radio show.
